The space that would become our firm’s office had formerly been a second-storey tractor repair-shop. Over time, it had become derelict, dark, and damaged by fire. The roof was leaking and the windows had been boarded-up. Working with the building’s owner we looked to revitalize the space, breathing new life into an existing industrial building.

We grounded the design for the space in the building’s existing structure, showing off the best of what was already there. Bowstring trusses are painted and made into the office’s dominant visual. Re-opened skylights brighten the space. The brick walls and wood ceiling have been soda-blasted, refreshing original raw materials.

Our studio is centrally-located, with offices and meeting rooms on each side. A steel-framed conference room with glass and sliding doors is designed to create a private meeting space, while also maintaining an ‘open’ feel.

Following the completion of the renovation, the space was featured as “London’s most beautiful” on local news. The office has become symbolic of a reinvigorated downtown area, highlighted on the cover of London City Life magazine as being central to the surrounding neighbourhood as “London’s hippest new address.” The project was recognized at a national level with a Design Exchange Bronze Award.
