Located at Ridout Street North and and King Street, Info-Tech Research Group’s London operation is housed in a dense campus of commercial heritage buildings in downtown London.
The design solution began with the restoration of existing heritage buildings. Exterior masonry surfaces were carefully restored; windows were replaced with insulated glazing in the period-correct painted steel frames and a new roof was installed to protect the existing building for future generations.
The forecourt was carefully designed with requirements of its current tenant and local pedestrian activity in mind while preserving the inherent industrial heritage character of the space. The composition is completed by a new masonry wall enclosing the forecourt which helps redefine the urban street edge creating a pedestrian-scaled environment at the sidewalkâs edge. A large opening through the wall leads directly to the new building entry, inviting the surrounding community to engage with this historic property.
This project was recognized with the City of London Urban Design Award for Adaptive Re-Use and Rehabilitation (2021), the City of London Urban Design Award for People’s Choice (2021), and the LSTAR Don Smith Commercial Building Award for Commercial Renovation (2019).
