St. André Bessette Secondary School

Designed for the London District Catholic School Board, St. Andre Bessette Catholic Secondary School was the first significant construction project in the developing residential area of northwest London.

The building’s main entrance opens to the curve of Tokala Trail with the chapel gracing the front facade; showcasing the school’s central element of faith. The south elevation of the courtyard draws natural light to the heart of the school serving as an outdoor communal gathering space. The Learning Commons was designed as a central atrium for students to gather and socialize, surrounded by central corridors and adjacent to the library. The main staircase doubles as an informal meeting space.

This project was recognized with the LSTAR Don Smith Commercial Building Awards for Institutional Community (2013) and the Ontario Masonry Design Award for Architectural Design – School (2014).
