The Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University is one of Canada’s leading music schools. Working with the Faculty and Building Committee, our firm provided a program analysis to establish ways in which Talbot College and the existing music library could be modified and upgraded. Following the completion of these studies, our firm was engaged to design the renovation and addition.
The design expands the building by 880 square metres, including a new five-storey tower. The renovated block accommodates a new performance hall, recital hall, faculty offices, practice rooms, teaching and recording studios, an early music ensemble suite, and a main lobby. The 250-seat main recital hall is used as a performance venue for the faculty; the design incorporates detailed acoustic design incorporating curved wood screens and sound baffles.
